GIVETOLIVE and Brigadoon Village are thrilled to present the 6th Annual BIG SWIM from Cape Tormentine, NB to Borden-Carleton, PE on Sunday, August 14, 2016. Over the past five years, over 150 swimmers have taken up the BIG SWIM challenge of swimming the Strait and have raised over $700,000 for charity. This year we have a goal of registering 60 swimmers and raising at least $150,000 for Brigadoon Village!

The BIG SWIM is a very unique sporting event and it requires lots of support. If you are interested in supporting the event as a sponsor, donor, kayaker, lifeguard, or volunteer please read on for details and contact for more information.

** Please note that there is a mandatory safety briefing for all participants (swimmers, kayakers, lifeguards, boat operators and volunteers) on Sat. August 13th @ The Cape Jourimain Nature Centre, so please plan on making this a full Saturday/Sunday event **

The 2016 event is limited to 60 swimmers and we expect it to sell out so don’t wait to register! The registration fee is $150 and includes an event swim cap, event t-shirt, training tips and support before the event, pre-swim dinner on Saturday night and safety boat support day of on the water. Each swimmer will need to identify a qualified kayaker to accompany them on their swim.

Fundraising from the 2016 BIG SWIM will support Brigadoon Village. Located on Aylesford Lake, Brigadoon Village gives a summer camp experience to Atlantic Canadian children, youth and families living with a chronic illness, chronic condition or special need. Each swimmer is required to fundraise a minimum of $1,000 for Brigadoon Village.

Support kayakers are key to the success of the BIG SWIM. The kayaker provides a lifeline for the swimmer: food, water, moral support and safety support. This is a critical part of the BIG SWIM safety plan, so GIVETOLIVE will assess the qualifications of each kayaker before they are approved to partner with a swimmer. They will be contacted by our kayak manager to discuss their experience in detail. Here are the basic requirements:

•Previous open water/ocean kayaking experience. Must be comfortable in a kayak in variable conditions for 3-8 hours.
•Access to an approved sea kayak with secure deck lines and water tight hatches.
•Access to required safety gear (full list TBA, includes: sea kayak, paddle and extra paddle, deck compass, PFD and an extra PFD, throw line, whistle, skirt, dry bags for your gear, water pump).
•Available on August 13th and 14th
If you would like to kayak for the BIG SWIM and don’t know a swimmer, please register and we’ll match you with someone!
Kayakers are not required to fundraise but we welcome you to join the effort to raise $150,000 for Brigadoon Village, either by setting up your own fundraising page or by working with your swimmer to maximize their fundraising.

A successful BIG SWIM requires lots of event volunteers. From registration, to beach support, to support on the water, each part of the BIG SWIM weekend requires volunteers. If you are available on August 13th & 14th (for all or part of the time), please register and our volunteer coordinator will be in touch. If you are interested in helping us reach the fundraising goal, volunteers are welcome to create a fundraising page.

GIVETOLIVE is seeking corporate sponsors to provide funding to cover some of the event expenses (safety boats, event dinner, paramedic support, print materials, etc.). We offer a variety of sponsorship levels and benefits. If your company would like to be involved as a sponsor of the BIG SWIM, please email for details.
